The COMET Study

Taking Part

This page explains the COMET Study for people who might be interested in joining

Overview

This study will compare treating a broken elbow by:

  • Surgery to fix the bone usually with a screw and placing the arm in a cast or splint. This procedure is called an open reduction and internal fixation
  • Placing the arm in a cast to allow the bone to heal on its own

Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups (like the flip of a coin), this will make sure that the groups are similar and the comparison is fair. If you choose to participate, at 3 months, 6 months, 1, 2, and 3 years you will be asked questions about using your arm, any pain you feel, and if you have missed any school
